“Quattrocelli sound like no other Chamber quartet in the world”
Lucid Culture, New York (April 17, 2008)
“The cello quartet gave a concert of musical subtlety, wit and passion, casting a spell over the audience with their music and their charm.”
Badische Zeitung, Germany (September 21, 2002)
Cellos can sound like drums, guitars and many other instruments. Quattrocelli performances demonstrate the wide tonal range of the cello that no other string instrument has, from powerful basses to clear sopranos. This group of four, young, accomplished cellists performs with a distinct sound that is witty and fun for the audience, while also presented at a very high technical level. Quattrocelli has been praised for their exquisite virtuosity, style and rare programming, enthralling audiences in Europe, the Far East and the United States. The quartet’s performances feature music from classical to jazz, rock, Latin and film music. They play movie soundtracks in their own special style with finesse and elegance that makes a perfect chamber music evening.
Quattrocelli, formed in 1997, is sponsored by the Friedrich Juergen Sellheim Society. Since then, they have collaborated with leading radio and TV stations in Germany. The group has released five CDs, of which one CD was recorded with (NDR) North German Broadcasting Hamburg, ‘kaleidoskop,’ 2004, and one with (RB) Radio Bremen ‘Scenes,’ 2007. They have also produced radio and TV shows with (SWR) Radio Stuttgart. Their forthcoming recording projects will include film music and the music of America.
Since 2004 Quattrocelli regularly concertizes and gives master classes throughout the United States to great success. They have appeared in over 100 concerts where they often received standing ovations. Forthcoming US tours in the fall of 2009 and in spring of 2010 (March) will include over 20 concerts in 10 states. Recent concert performances of Quattrocelli also included master classes in Germany, Belgium, Shanghai and Korea. They have appeared in China s ince 2006.
The quartet is collaborating with the German music publisher Schott in a premiere of a work by Werner Egk at the leading Rheingau Music Festival. They work with other well-known composers and their music is specifically arranged and composed for the quartet. Quattrocelli presents popular film music by Lalo Schifrin (Mission Impossible), as well as recently discovered film music of Dimitry Shostakovich, Ennio Morricone, John Williams, Erich Korngold and Hans Eisler, from the beginning of film music up to the latest hits of today.
All four members have performed as recitalists, orchestral soloists or as members of major orchestras in Germany or abroad earlier in their careers. Born in Germany, the members of Quattrocelli studied at various music academies in Germany and in other European countries. All four received their Masters of Music degree and were recipients of prizes, honors and awards from prestigious music organizations and cello competitions.
